What Should Become of the Old Crozet Library?

The Albemarle County Police want to spend $350k to renovate the library/depot.

The Crozet Gazette have an extensive story this month and Ryan at the Newsplex did a story last night and J. Reynolds Hutchins at the Daily Progress had a nice story yesterday as well.

There’s a good discussion the RealCrozetVA Facebook page (comments embedded after the jump here).

What do you think? Police station? Train depot?

I’m skeptical that the old library’s best use is a police station. More patrols? Yes. Police station? I’m open to being convinced.

I’ve added a poll to this story – please click through to respond. I’ll make sure that the County – the BoS, CCAC, etc. – see the responses. Thanks. Please note that the Police Station is the only thing I know of as having been proposed. The other options are just ideas I’ve heard.

September Crozet Gazette – Lots of Good Stuff

This month’s Crozet Gazette – the largest issue yet – is out. And it’s chock full of useful, good stuff.

– County Police Propose a Station in Old Crozet Library Depot – I think this space would make a much better restaurant or tourism center. Or, you know … a train station.

– Crozet Running will be opening in the lower level of the Crozet Library. Crozet has become a fantastic running community and this seems to be a great use of the Crozet Library space. (Selfishly, I’d love to see a bicycle café bar in Crozet as well.)

– Another complaint about the speed enforcement on Jarman’s Gap Road.

– Work to Start on Crozet Tunnel Trail – This is super exciting.

As a note, I’m awfully thankful for the Crozet Gazette – having dedicated journalists consistently covering local news is critical.

Meet our At-Large School Board Member – 16 September 2013

This is great. Just received via email. If you’re a parent (or just interested Crozetian) this is a great opportunity.

Good evening, I’m Ned Gallaway, your county-wide representative on the Albemarle County School Board.

I would like to invite you to join me for coffee on Monday evening, Sept. 16, anytime between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Mudhouse in Crozet.

With me will be Adam Mulcahy, the director of our new Environmental Studies Academy at Western Albemarle High School.

There is no formal agenda for our conversation and no need for you to stay for the entire hour. Although we will spend a few minutes talking about the new academy, I welcome your thoughts or questions on any subject regarding education or on any of our schools, programs or policies.

The most important responsibility I have is to ably represent you on the school board. In doing this, it is extraordinarily helpful for me to hear from you. I hope you will be able set aside a few minutes on the 16th to join Adam and me and a few of your neighbors. No need to RSVP.

– Jarmans Gap and Crozet Avenue? (I really think a roundabout would make sense there

– Library Avenue and Crozet Avenue?

– Harris Teeter and 250?

– The gas stations on 250 near Western?

– Somewhere else?

RealCrozetVA has been hosted with Blue Ridge Internetworks for several years. I don’t know what generated the email, but one day I received an email from Baylor Fooks offering to host RealCrozetVA, gratis. I’ve said before that I write this site purely for the community as I love Crozet and the goal of RealCrozetVA has remained the same since its inception in September 2005.

So, thanks, Blue Ridge, for supporting community news and conversation and for offering phenomenal support on the very few times I’ve needed it. I know I haven’t said it enough, but I (and the readers) sincerely appreciate your support.
