Mostly.
A fence? So soon?
Update: The Crozet Gazette and the Daily Progress provide well-researched stories this morning.
If anyone would be willing to share a copy of the proposed contract, please email me.
Can’t we all get along?
Now what?
To Crozetians: let’s be nice, respectful and considerate of each other as we fight & jockey for the few spaces. I saw an elderly woman trying to get to Parkway Pharmacy today and she had to park much further from the pharmacy than she wanted. Me? I’ll ride my bike whenever possible.
They’re hoping to vote on the signs at Thursday’s Crozet Community Association meeting, so vote fast!

Earning/winning this grant was the result of collaborative work by the County of Albemarle, the Albemarle County School Board, 250 West group, Crozet Community Association, the Alliance for Community Choice in Transportation and a few others. Readers of RealCrozetVA know that I have long advocated for walkability and bikeability in Crozet, and practice what I preach.
(Bolding mine.)
From the press release:
Chairman Ann Mallek, School Board member Barbara Massie Mouly, and Crozet school officials and parents. The grant will fund construction of a new sidewalk north of the school connecting to neighborhoods where many students live and a crosswalk with activated flashers and a warning sign to alert approaching motorists. This project will be funded entirely by grant funds.
The project is intended to provide a pedestrian-friendly environment in the area surrounding the school, and will significantly increase the number of students who can safely walk or bike to school. Approximately 177 of 305 students live within two miles of Crozet Elementary School and there are over 200 homes in neighborhood located within one-half mile of the school that will be able to take advantage of the new pedestrian features. In addition, the private Field School located directly across the street from Crozet Elementary will also be linked by the new sidewalk to neighborhoods north of downtown Crozet and will be served by the new crosswalk and warning sign features.

If anyone wants to write a story for RealCrozetVA about this meeting, please do so. I’ll buy you a cup of coffee at the Crozet coffee shop of your choice. 🙂

This Thursday, May 13, at 7:30 PM is our semi-monthly Crozet Community Association Meeting at the Field School auditorium (across from Crozet Elementary).
This meeting will be a joint meeting with Albemarle County Community Development, Crozet Community Advisory Council and us (CCA) to review draft revisions to the Crozet Master Plan and to hear a safety update from the County Police Department. With the recent burglaries in Crozet and summer approaching we thought it important to hear from the police about ways we can protect our neighborhoods.
These two brief presentations will be followed by an open house where you can ask questions and provide feedback on the draft revisions.
Our proposed meeting agenda is attached as well as I have enclosed the email about the Crozet Entrance sign designs we asked David & Meg to gather.
Please come and bring a friend and/or a neighbor or two to bolster our group and encourage involvement in your home town. As you can see from the agenda, we have several very important items of lasting impact on Crozet to consider.

From the press release:
Pedestrian safety near Crozet Elementary School will get a major boost thanks to a state grant award that will be announced on Wednesday, May 12, at 1:00 pm at Crozet Elementary School by Board of Supervisors Chairman Ann Mallek, School Board member Barbara Massie Mouly, and Crozet school officials and parents. Details of the grant and the specific improvements it will fund will be outlined at the press conference.
I’m looking forward to seeing how “near” is defined. And “major.”
Either way, walking to Crozet Elementary is a good thing. As is “walkability” for home prices.
More opinion to come … The Crozet Gazette has the story on the closing of the Square’s parking lot.
Buckingham Branch Railroad will close The Square to parking and storage of materials within the next 30 days to protect itself from liability and safety issues.
And to whomever “cussed out” the railroad employees … thanks.
Just a reminder that this weekend brings the Crozet Arts & Crafts Festival. And, but for a couple possible thunderstorms, it should be a beautiful weekend.
Deep in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia lies the little town of Crozet. Steeped in history and surrounded by breathtaking scenery, Crozet is a supportive, growing community close to Charlottesville. Monticello, Ashlawn, Montpelier, the University of Virginia, Skyline Drive, the Blue Ridge Parkway and the nearby Shenandoah Valley make central Virginia a place of interest to visitors from all of the the world. Charlottesville is consistently ranked by Money Magazine as one of the 100 Best Places to Live in America. Those who visit often find ways to return – and some make it their permanent home.
The Crozet Arts & Crafts Festival is now entering its 30th year and has become a tradition for many artists, patrons, volunteers and entertainers alike. It has a strong reputation locally and the demographics of the area provide support year after year. Due to its central location in the Commonwealth and its convenient access to many major roadways, including I-81 and I-64, the Charlottesville area makes a great show stop between major cities. Any time of year is a good time of year to do business here.
Update: If you have some time, feel free to volunteer at the Crozet Arts & Crafts Festival.
The tents are up and we are getting ready to host over 100 exhibits for the 30th Annual Crozet Arts & Crafts Spring Festival. However, we are in need of more volunteers to help us Saturday and Sunday! Please, please consider volunteering an hour or two or more. But if you could only work an hour, we can use your help. There are a variety of tasks from running the information tent to pouring Starr Hill beer at the wine and beer tent on Sunday (must be 21 to volunteer at the wine and beer tent).
Any time you can provide will be greatly appreciated! Funds generated from this event help run the operating costs of Claudius Crozet Park, Inc. and ultimately will help us provide support for the Crozet P.A.R.C. campaign. It takes a village to run this event. Claudius Crozet Park, Inc, is a non-profit and independently-run park(no funds are received from Albemarle County).
See the link below and consider where you might be able to provide help with this event, please?
