Tell Ann Mallek What’s on Your Mind

There’s lots going on in Crozet:

– Redevelopment of Barnes’ property
– Sidewalks on Jarman’s Gap
– Walking to School bureaucracy
– Property taxes
– Overcrowding in Schools

If you don’t tell our elected representatives what’s on your mind, rest assured that others, with whom you may not agree, are.

Albemarle County Police Chief Steve Sellers also plans to be a guest speaker at each of the meetings. Residents will be able to direct questions to both Mallek and Sellers about any topic.

“White Hall district residents are encouraged to join in discussions about our community issues and how to fund our future needs,” Mallek said in a prepared statement.

The meetings are scheduled as follows: 7 p.m. Monday at the White Hall Community Center; 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Brownsville Elementary School cafeteria; and 7 p.m. March 16 at the Broadus Wood Elementary School cafeteria. The meetings require no advance registration.

Lack of High-Speed Internet Meeting on Thursday

Thanks to the Daily Progress:

Members of the White Hall community are invited to attend a meeting this week to discuss the need for high-speed Internet in the area.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Montfair Resort Farm in Crozet. The event is free and open to the public.

Residents and Albemarle County leaders will discuss ways to get high-speed Internet service to White Halland the surrounding areas.

Ann H. Mallek, chairwoman of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors, will speak.

Several small-business Internet providers are also expected to attend the event.

The Montfair Resort Farm is at 2500 Bezaleel Drive, Crozet.

Old Trail + Assisted Living Facility

Remember way back in 2008 when I told you about the assisted living facility coming to Old Trail?

It’s going to be a reality. Huge thanks to the Crozet Gazette:

Near it, on the east side of the village stores’ parking lot, will be a new 126-bed assisted living facility to be known as The Lodge at Old Trail. The facility will offer services ranging from basic to end-of-life care and memory care, all on a rental model. It is being built by David Hilliard, who has previously built and now operates two assisted living facilities in Vermont. The facility will have underground parking on its basement level, entered from behind the building, and that is being excavated now. There will be three floors above. Completion is expected in 18 months. The building was designed by local architects Russell Skinner and Richard “Jyke” Jones.

Beights Development formally transferred 48 acres, mainly lying along Lickinghole Creek, to Albemarle County in December to be the site of “Western Park.” Beights said he hopes the county will begin improvements soon. The transfer makes possible the creation of a walking path connecting Grayrock and other Jarmans Gap Road subdivisions to Henley Middle and Brownsville Elementary Schools.

What are the Best CSAs in and around Crozet?

I was checking out CSA listings at Local Harvest, and was disappointed by not many listings and many that *were* there were outdated! So if you know of ANY CSA (community supported agriculture) in the area (Charlottesville/Crozet/Central VA), no matter how small, please respond here and I will make a listing of them. Let’s support our local farmers – especially the ones just getting started!

Personally, I usually search at the Buy Fresh, Buy Local site, but would much prefer recommendations.

Starr Hill + Monticello = Beer

But will it be on tap in Crozet?

From the Washington Times:

The Thomas Jefferson Foundation says it’s working with Starr Hill Brewery in Crozet to offer Monticello Reserve Ale, inspired by what was produced and consumed regularly at Monticello. Brewing beer was among the plantation’s important activities, and the beer was one of the “table liquors” served with meals.

Monticello Reserve Ale is made from a combination of lightly hopped wheat and corn.
