These events involve a lot of donated time from a lot of individuals and donated materials and services from local companies, but it still cannot happen without financial contributions, too.

Of course, we appreciate all donations, but to boost our efforts to cover expenses, we have three leadership donor levels and we are hoping that you will show your support by becoming a lead patron this year.

• For a gift of $500 or more, we will prominently display your company banner you provide at the entrance to the park during the event, identify your patron status in the Crozet Gazette and event handbill and provide you with ten passes to the celebration in the park as well as published thanks in the Crozet Gazette and the event handbill.
• For a gift of $250 to $499, you will receive acknowledgment in the Crozet Gazette and event handbill and four passes to the celebration in the park.
• And, for a gift of $100 to $249, you will receive two passes to the celebration in the park, published thanks in the Crozet Gazette and the event handbill.

June 29 will be here before you know it.  Won’t you join us by contributing whatever you can afford?  If being a lead patron is too much, please send whatever you can afford.   Your contribution is tax-deductible charitable donation. Thank you!

It takes a village – won’t you help out on Saturday, June 29 for an hour?

We need your help for just an hour or two on Sunday, June 29.   Below is the website to sign-up to help with the Crozet Independence Day Celebration (CIDC) between 5PM to 10PM. There are a variety of tasks and time slots. Most of the time slots are only an hour – so there’s lots of ways to help and still enjoy the event.

When you sign-up it will ask for your name, email and, optionally phone number.  No one else can see your email and phone.  We promise we won’t share it.  It’s helpful for us to have it if something happens and we need to let you know about a last minute change.

We urge church groups, civic and neighborhood associations to sign-up.  Crozet Trails Crew already has volunteered to staff one spot the whole evening!  Let’s see which group can have the most volunteers!

With your help, we can make this Crozet Independence Day celebration the best ever!

This Christmas season the Lions Club of Crozet again invites all of our friends and neighbors in Crozet and environs to ring bells for the Salvation Army in front of the Crozet Great Valu Market.

Bell ringing is scheduled for Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, from December 1 through Christmas.

On weekdays we plan to ring the bells from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., and on Saturdays from10:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M.. Volunteers are asked to ring the bells for one hour with another person or with family members

We hope you are willing to participate in this happy, meaningful activity.

Those who have participated this activity in the past often remark that it is very positive for both the volunteer and the donors. It is a wonderful way for families to get into the Holiday spirit.

On Behalf of the CBC Mission Team,  I want to extend our most sincere thanks to the Crozet community for the outpouring of generosity that will make Christmas a little brighter for some children, and a little less stressful for some parents.  Angel Tree is 100% supported.  The need was great again this year, and we couldn’t do it without the support of so many.  I count it a gift and privilege to be able to meet and partner with so many people.

Hey neighbors,

My name is Devin Harris and I am a Professor at UVA. My background is Civil Engineering and we are researching concepts related to quality of life within communities. I have been part of the Crozet community for the past six years and thought this might be a great place to get some informal feedback on our work. I was reaching out to assess potential interest in our study that focuses on opportunities to understand and improve quality of live in neighborhoods and communities. In brief, this study aims to use a crowd-sensing approach by encouraging community members to take and share data (specifically pictures and descriptions) of issues of concern in their neighborhood/community such as congested streets, sidewalks in disrepair, flooded streets, fallen traffic signs, potholes, etc. These data (primarily images) would then to be used to create models that will automatically detect the issue and report them to decision makers. Such models are expected to help decision makers and members of the community with necessary information for solving the issues. The schematically demonstrates this idea (Note: This is only illustrative of the concept and not real data).

If you would so kind as to fill out the attached survey about your potential interest in such an idea, I would really appreciate your input.  We are not collecting any information about those participating in the survey, only gathering some basic numbers on who might be interested and how they might be willing participate. The survey is four simple questions and will probably not take more than 30 seconds to complete.

    Put together a basic disaster supplies kit and consider storage locations for different situations. Help community members do the same.

    Emergency Plans

    Develop and document plans for your specific risks.

    • Protect yourself and family with a Family Emergency Plan
    • Be sure to plan for locations away from home
    • Pet owners should have plans to care for their animals. The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention offer information on animal health impacts in evacuation shelters.

The 9th annual Crozet Trails Crew 5K Trail Race and Kids 400-meter Fun Run is only one month away! Come out on Saturday, October 6 to run, walk, or jog through woods, grassy fields, along streams, and over bridges (more info below).

Many are already working behind the scenes planning the race route, painting bridges, collecting prizes, etc.

Please support our primary fundraiser of the year by joining our

• Workday on Saturday, Sept. 29 to prepare the trail for the race. Meet at 9 am at the trail entrance off Park Ridge Drive. Drive down Park Ridge through Western Ridge into Foothill Crossing, and look for the trail entrance on the left.
• Help at the race on 10/6 by setting up, staffing registration, giving out prizes, and cleaning up after the race. Sign up to volunteer here, and thank you!
• Register to run/jog/walk the race here.
  • The Kids Fun Run is at 8 am, with the adult race beginning at 8:30 and award ceremony at 9:30 with lots of prizes, including bridge naming rights to the male and female first place finishers! Registration and packet pick up will be Friday evening 10/5 from 6 to 8 pm in front of Crozet Library, as well as Saturday morning 7-8 am at Crozet Park. Fee is $20 online in advance or $25 in person. Registration includes a race tee shirt plus admission to the Crozet Arts and Crafts Festival immediately following.
• The Crozet Trails Crew helps our parent non-profit, the Crozet Park, by staffing the wine and beer tent at the Arts for and Crafts Festival. Sign up for a shift as bartender here.

And that’s not all! A team from Albemarle County Parks & Recreation has begun to make major improvements to the muddy and rutted trail just outside the dog park at Crozet Park. We are looking forward to a smoother, drier trail in that section. Thanks to all who helped them!

Our monthly meeting has a NEW date (third Thursday) and location this month! It will be Thursday, Sept. 20 from 6:30 – 8 pm at Crozet Pizza. Hope to see you there for final race planning!
