Help Our Neighbors in Crozet this Thanksgiving

Via NBC29:

For most, Thanksgiving is a time of enjoying plenty of food with our friends and families, but for some Thanksgiving is a reminder of just how little there is to go around. Now, Crozet Baptist Church is doing its part to give families in need a holiday to remember.

For the past 21 years, Crozet Baptist Church has taken part in the Share the Blessing Ministry, providing a full Thanksgiving meal for hundreds of families in need. Last year, Share the Blessing served more than 200 families and this year, they are looking at helping close to 325.

Volunteers are coming together all throughout western Albemarle County, but they need the community’s help to do it.

Update:

Thank you so much for contacting us about our Share the Blessing Ministry.  At this time, all items on our grocery list are still in need, especially turkeys.  Anything you can do to help would be much appreciated.

Our grocery list is as follows:

– 50oz can green beans
– Boxed stuffing
– Boxed potatoes
– Canned cranberries
– Can or jar gravy
– Turkey (any size frozen)
– Frozen pies (any flavor)

Food can be dropped off at Crozet Baptist  until 5pm today or between 9am and noon tomorrow.  We will be doing our final counts and shopping tomorrow afternoon.

Thank you so much for your interest in our mission and we ask that for your prayers for so many families in need.  Blessings to you and yours for a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Should we trick or trick on Saturday or Sunday in Crozet?

PPTT Petrifying Scooter Pig

I was asked this question this morning while walking my daughter to Crozet Elementary – is there a day this year in Crozet that is considered “the day” for Trick or Treating?

It’s a question that is being asked around the country, in many localities.

So, I pose the question – Should we trick or trick on Saturday or Sunday in Crozet?

Further, if you don’t live in in a neighborhood that is great for trick or treating, where do you go? (and please, don’t do car-trick-or-treating! If you can’t walk from house to house … )

More on the Crozet Playground – This Time with Invoices! – Part 3

The Crozet Elementary playground story continues. (Background) I asked Joe Letteri, the Director of Buliding Services for the Albemarle County Public Schools to tell us exactly how much the playground cost. He responded quickly; his email and the cost sheets are below.

Thank you, Joe, for sending this to on.

I feel a bit like I’m beating a dead (expensive) horse by continuing to post about this, but if we the people don’t step up and ask questions of “our” government, things like this will continue to happen.

This is the vendor – All Recreation, Inc. – referenced in the email and the invoices.

Fourth of July Parade in Crozet? Fireworks?

Update 10 June 2010:

The Crozet Gazette (good thing we have paid journalists to do this reporting!) reports that the Crozet Volunteer Fire Department will be doing neither fireworks nor a parade this year.

“We’re not doing the parade this summer,” announced assistant chief Warren “Hubba” Wood. “We’re doing everything for the 100th anniversary celebration on Sept 18. We can’t turn around and do it again in September. We’ll make it big this fall.”

Who’s interested in holding a parade on the Fourth of July? It’s on a Sunday …

Anybody know what’s happening this year?

Crozet’s fireworks were canceled/never planned last year. It’s most likely too late to plan them this year, so I ask – has anybody planned them?

I assume there will be a parade and fireworks, but everybody knows what happens when one assumes …

Spaghetti Dinner to Benefit Mountainside Senior Living – 19 March 2010

From a comment:

Please help support Mountainside Senior Living in downtown Crozet. Mountainside is home to 106 of our elderly, most of whom grew up in our area. The assisted living facility is operated by JABA, a not for profit , local organization. State and county funding plays a big part in keeping the standards high. These funds are in danger of being reduced with current budget work so donations and fund raisers become all the more important. I volunteer at Mountainside and can speak first hand of the quality of care given our seniors, many of whom are low income and dependent on the support Mountainside provides them.

There will be a spaghetti dinner this Friday, March 19, from 6-8 p.m. at Western Albemarle High School. All proceeds will go directly to Mountainside.

The menu is as follows:

.Spaghetti (meat or meatless sauce)
.Green Beans
.Salad
.Bread
.Dessert Choice
$7.00 per person (small children eat free).

Thanks for the support !!
