ArtFest in the West 2015 a Success

via Newsplex.

The third annual Artfest in the West took place Friday night at Western Albemarle High School.

Artfest raised money for art programs in Albemarle County Public Schools’ western feeder pattern.

“Art is one of the first places that gets cut,” said Karen Pfeiffer, Artfest in the West president.

Pfeiffer holds that art plays an important role in everyone’s life.

“It rounds out a person, teaches them to thing with the other side of their brain.”

Over the previous years, Artfest in the West has generated more than $12,000 for marching band uniforms, art supplies, and more.

“These kids are just so talented and they’re really dedicated to their art. And we want to support that and continue that,” said Pfeiffer.

Home Depot Makes Family’s Day

Posted on the RealCrozetVA Facebook page:

I would like to give a shout out to Home depot. I am the mother of a severely autistic son and I live here in Crozet. Today I had a particularly rough morning upon waking we seen that our son had put a lot of things in the toilet and stopped it up. This happens so often , I took it to fb to vent. The conversation quickly went to my friends suggesting I get a smart technology toilet. We all joked that they were probably too expensive. My husband works two jobs and it’s always a financial struggle getting by. This evening my wonderful niece Sarah surprised me by dropping off one of these toilets . I was overjoyed . She told me how she contacted Home depot and they were generous enough to give it to us as a gift. Restoring our faith in humanity. Thank you, Susan

 I like posting good stories.

Crooks Caught?

Happy thanksgiving; hopefully these are the guys … received this email this morning:

I just wanted to let you all know that our detectives and officers have just arrested two individuals that have been linked to a large number of the burglaries and shed break-ins throughout the county. Though we may not be able to clear each case individually, we feel very confident that they are the people responsible for terrorizing our community for the past few months.

Happy Thanksgiving to each of you and your families.

Crozet Angel Tree 2014

Last year’s Angel Tree was a great success. This year, there are still people in need. Lisa Ebanks writes (bolding mine):

“Each Christmas season the counselors at Crozet Elementary, Brownsville and Henley partner with Crozet Baptist church to provide warm clothing for children in need. This year there were 240 children identified, up from the 225 that our community served last year. We have been able to fulfill the needs of these families as a community working together and spreading the word. Please consider “adopting” an angel or a family of 2,3 or 4 children. This is a great teaching moment for children or an awesome team building project at a place of employment.

Please contact Lisa Ebanks at [email protected] to be matched. Let’s work as a community to keep these kids warm this holiday season.”

Interested in Riding Bicycles in Crozet?

Skyline Drive

Crozet is a great place to ride a bike.

I’ve ridden a bicycle for a couple years now, and have found group rides to be a great way to ride – for community, camaraderie, pushing each other a bit, and pastries at the end of the ride.  If you’re interested in riding for an hour each week with a few folks, please click through to the google form. If we have enough interest (and accommodating weather, maybe we’ll go next week). I promise nothing other than I’ll try to organize as best I can. I’ll put together a google group or something as we go.

Halloween & Trick or Treating in Crozet – 2014

I get this question every year:

What day is trick or treating in Crozet?

I will add this question: which are your favorite neighborhoods for trick-or-treating?

1) Trick or treating is on Friday the 31st.
2) Trick or Treating in The Square on the 30th.
3) Music at Fardowners, Crozet Pizza, and Southern Way Cafe on the 31st. (missing an event? Please add it!)

Crozet Arts & Crafts Festival Needs Volunteers

via email:

As you may know, we are gearing up for our last Arts & Crafts Festival of the year. This is the Crozet Park’s largest fundraiser and we are expecting a great event with large crowds. To be successful, this event requires many volunteers and I’m hopeful, many of you will consider volunteering. Those who volunteer are given free admission to the event.

A list of volunteer opportunities can be found at: http://crozetfestival.com/ . Please consider signing up for one or several activities.
Thank you for your participation.
