Lots of stuff was discussed last night in the CCAC meeting.

• Boy Scouts presented their idea for a home base of sorts in the Western Park
• Small Groups discussed ideas for Western Park, ranging from nature, to stream walk to soccer/multi-use fields, to observation deck to take in native species
• One member of the public made a key point – this is not an Old Trail park, it’s a County Park (and also, parking is a must)
• The first half of the meeting was very well attended;
• Frank Stoner with Milestone Partners discussed where they are in the redevelopment process, timelines (optimistically, first buildings could be open  in spring 2020), the need for the Plaza as a precursor to other businesses such as hotels, costs, transportation (grid, Parkside Village connector), Dan Mahon proposed to Frank an interim trail, the importance of Perrone Robotics, and quite a bit more. Downtown redevelopment is a huge opportunity for Crozet.

Big thanks to Kimberly Barker for tweeting most of the meeting, and for Crozet Gazette for the livestream.

• AirBnB. It’s a big thing. Lots of people are doing it, County taxes it, and only 10 people in 12 years have complained to the County about it.
• Traffic. Big discussion here. No viable solutions (IMHO) discussed or put forth.
  • Joel DeNunzio from VDOT sent me the Crozet Ave Crash Data (excel file) and the Crozet Ave Crash Map.
  • Dig into the data yourself at the VDOT site.
  • Sort of related – Why so many crashes on 64?
  • Sounds like they might do a traffic study on Crozet Ave. Bizarrely, they previously didn’t count pedestrians or bicycles. Hopefully they will now.
• Barnes redevelopment – Frank Stoner is coming to the October meeting to give an update.

Lots of stuff was discussed tonight. Crozet’s drinking water, Bike & Pedestrian update (Crozet Trails, retrofitting infrastructure), NIFI (don’t know what NIFI is? Keep reading.) Western Park funding (actually, no-funding) and a bit more.
