Traffic Notice:

Please be aware of the temporary “bumps” at each crosswalk. “Bump Ahead” signs have been posted to warn motorists of the changing road conditions. Please drive slowly, remain alert and drive/walk carefully when traveling through the construction zone. Thank you for your patience and courtesy to motorists, pedestrians, and workers during this difficult phase of construction.

Crozet’s Weekend Events – 12 September & Notes from Facebook

Music at Fardowners, Starr Hill, and Crozet Pourhouse, Pancake 5k at Chiles, Art at the Trax, the Boys and Girls Challenge, WAHS rowing flea market, and more this weekend in Crozet. (submit your own event here)

Crozet Library is awesome.

One student at Crozet Library, a branch of Jefferson-Madison (Va.) Regional Library, left a remarkable thank-you note with young adult librarian Allie Haddix about the library’s Exam Cram event for high school students: “Because of the services that you have provided, I will study hard and efficiently, get good grades, get into the best college, and change the world.”

A few things from the RealCrozetVA Facebook:

– The new gas station on 250 opened this week.

– Great Valu got an outstanding review on Yelp.

– Can you spare $5 or more to support the Boys and Girls Club? I’m riding this on Sunday and I’d appreciate any support you can offer.

– It looked like bike to school day at Crozet Elementary, but it was just a school day.

New Crozet Library Hours

Good stuff can happen when the community raises its voice.

Crozet Library Adapts New Hours

The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors approved funding for additional open hours at the new Crozet/Western Albemarle Library. The library will now be open Wednesday evenings until 9 p.m. The additional evening hours are designed to better serve students and residents who are unable to visit the library during the day.

The library will now be open 52 hours a week: 1-9 p.m., Mondays and Tuesdays; 9 a.m. – 9 p.m., Wednesdays; 9 a.m. -5 p.m., Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Since opening last September, library use in Crozet has increased by 80%, with over 2,000 new registered library users.

What does “Community” mean (to you)?

We had an interesting – and different conversation – yesterday on WNRN’s Wake Up Call with Rick Moore. Rick changed up our pre-discussed topics and focused on community – discovering, building, maintaining, becoming a part of – community.

I’d like to think it was a really good discussion, and I ended up talking quite a bit about Crozet. If you’re interested, the show notes post with a link to the podcast is here and the direct link to the podcast is here Cville Podcast.

Since the inception of RealCrozetVA, the subheading of the blog has been either “community blog for Crozet, Virginia” or today’s more succinct,  “Crozet’s community blog.” We talk about “community” a lot here … what do you think?

New Look to RealCrozetVA

You’ll notice some changes at RealCrozetVA. I’m playing with a new look while trying to keep the functionality and usability of the site as high as possible.

There’s still quite a bit I’m going to try to make time to make better (notably the calendar, the search for homes page(s) and a few other things), but the focus will remain trying to provide as much useful, relevant content as possible.

A couple things I like – the upcoming events on the left sidebar (would love to have more music shown here), comments prominently on the right and the link to the Facebook widget on the right, stronger imagery at the top, and generally a cleaner look – for desktop and mobile.

Feedback, suggestions (and help) always welcomed and appreciated.
