Encore Kids Clothing Now Open in Downtown Crozet

via email:
“The store is named Encore Kids Clothing and we are located at 5786B Three Notch’d Rd. in Crozet, between Santosha Yoga and Sam’s Hot Dog Stand. It would be great if you could mention that there is additional parking and another entry to the store in the back, in the alley between the century link brick building and Creative Framing.
The hours are not set in stone yet but, tentatively, for the next couple weeks, 10am-2pm.It’s best if folks check the Facebook page for updates or call. Phone is 434-282-0206. Email is [email protected]. We’ll be closed Mondays and open for longer hours on the weekends. The store does not do consignment. Instead it’s simply resale. People can sell me stuff or just shop or both! I have clothes from birth to age 16 as of right now.”
Best,

Ivy Bridge Closure/Replacement Coming Soon

UPDATE – 13 July to 27 July are the dates of closure.

Reminder

VDOT will replace the existing bridge with a four cell box culvert. The box culvert will be installed in four sections. This culvert design will allow for a much shorter construction period than replacing the bridge in kind.

Construction will be expedited by closing Route 250 at Little Ivy Creek in both directions for two weeks with a detour in place. Eastbound motorists will be directed to Interstate 64 and use exit 118 to Route 29 (Monacan Trail) north, which carries traffic back to Route 250. Westbound motorists will reverse the detour and use exit 107 to Route 250 to navigate around the closure. The detour from one end of the bridge to the other is about 24 miles. Local traffic may use alternative secondary routes to navigate around the closure.

Some Crozetians will be Voting in Different Locations

Important background from March.

via email:

CHANGE OF VOTING LOCATION FOR CERTAIN ALBEMARLE COUNTY VOTERS

Changes go into effect at upcoming June 12, 2018 primary election

At their March 14, 2018 meeting, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors made polling place changes at the request of the Albemarle County Electoral Board. These changes go into effect at the upcoming June 12, 2018 primary election and are intended to ease congestion at Cale, Free Bridge, Brownsville and Crozet — four of the County’s most populous voting precincts. The combination of the Jack Jouett and Belfield precincts addresses the unavailability of the former Belfield voting location (St. Anne’s-Belfield School).

All affected voters have been mailed new voter cards showing their new voting location. Voters are urged to pay particular attention to the information contained on the new voter cards to ensure they are voting in their appropriate precinct. Specific changes are as follows:

  • Albemarle County voters who formerly voted in the Belfield Precinct, at St. Anne’s- Belfield School, will now vote at the Jack Jouett Precinct, located at Jack Jouett Middle School, 210 Lambs Lane, Charlottesville.
  • Some Albemarle County voters who formerly voted in the Cale Precinct, at Cale Elementary School, will now vote in the auxiliary gym at Monticello High School, 1400 Independence Way, Charlottesville. This is the new Biscuit Run Precinct.
  • Some Albemarle County voters who formerly voted in the Free Bridge Precinct, at the Elks Lodge, will now vote at the Broadus Memorial Baptist Church, 1525 Stony Point Road, Charlottesville. This is the new Pantops Precinct.
  • Some Albemarle County voters who formerly voted in the Brownsville Precinct, at the Brownsville Elementary school, and Some Albemarle County voters who formerly voted in the Crozet Precinct, at the Crozet Elementary School, will now vote at Western Albemarle High School, at 5941 Rockfish Gap Turnpike, Crozet. This is the new Mechums River Precinct.

Sinkhole in the Square

Update 4 June via Albemarle’s A-Mail email.

On Sunday, June 3, 2018, a sink hole appeared in Crozet, in the parking area at The Square. In response to this dangerous situation, Albemarle County has hired a contractor to permanently fill the cavity. Work to fill the hole will begin tomorrow, Tuesday, June 5, at 7:00 a.m.

While this work is underway, there many be some minor disruption to traffic in and out of The Square. The contractor will have traffic flaggers on site to assist with the direction of traffic.

The cause of the sinkhole is unknown. The County is not aware of any sizable utilities (water, sanitary, storm) in the vicinity of the hole. It is possible that there might be some old structures associated with the railroad in the vicinity, but that is speculation at this time.

If you have any questions about this work, please contact the Public Works Division at 434-296-5816.

We’ve had a lot of rain.

There’s a sinkhole in the Square, near the pine tree.

Trevor Henry with County of Albemarle emails, “The area is currently taped off and the county will be evaluating further for a repair plan. I expect the parking in the adjacent area to be impacted until a full repair can be made. ”
