Summer Reading at the Crozet Library

Get Carried Away with Summer Reading at the Crozet Library

It’s that time of year again. The time of relaxing summer days filled with tales of adventure, excitement, mystery, and thrills. Time to take a pile of books to the beach, careful to keep the pages of your library books pristine amid the sun, surf, and sand. The time of camping in the dark woods, reading creepy tales by the firelight. Time to walk from the sticky heat of the outside to the cool refreshing air of the library, the mountain views draping the windows, as you sit in your own private world, deep in stories and letting your mind run free.

The Crozet Library is kicking off its Summer Reading Event for all ages with its Summer Kickoff Party on Monday, June 12th from 5:30-7pm. Come by for music, sweet treats, fun outdoor games, sidewalk chalk drawing, and even a Zumba demonstration happening outside at 6pm!

At the event, you can sign up for JMRL’s Summer Reading Challenge – great for every age. Do any five challenges on your JMRL Summer Challenge Sheet, such as “Read outside” or “Attend a library program,” and you will earn the monthly prize (it varies by age for the first sheet, and it’s a free book for all ages for the second and third!) and a chance at the grand prize for your age group. In addition to all the wonderful materials you can check out from the Library, there are also events for all ages throughout the summer – a Calligraphy Workshop, a Bollywood Dance Class, Dorm Room Cooking Lessons, Quidditch in the Park, LEGO building, Mad Science in the Movies, and films and book groups for every age group — and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

The summer is a time of discovery – to discover pleasure reading and to learn what you want to learn, without the constraints of grades, tests, or deadlines. Reading over the summer helps kids maintain or advance their reading levels and allows them to forge ahead when the new school year rolls around, and adults find that the summer is a good time to catch up on their reading, too. So whether you are an avid reader, brand new to reading, or getting back to reading for pleasure after a long hiatus, the Library is there waiting to help you uncover your next treasure.
