Triathlon & Duathlon at the Crozet YMCA July 16th , 2016

via email:

Charlottesville, VA – Charlottesville Multisports is looking forward to kicking off the 6th annual Jefferson Sprint Triathlon & Duathlon. It will be held for the first time at the Crozet YMCA on Saturday, July 16th – 8-11:30am. The triathlon will consist of a 350 meter pool swim, 11mile bike and 3mile run, and the land lovers duathlon will consist of a 1mile run, 11mile bike, 3mile run.

For the first five years the Jefferson Sprint Triathlon & Duathlon was held in the City of Charlottesville at Fry’s Spring Beach Club. Upon hearing that the Crozet YMCA was interested in hosting a triathlon, race director, Kate Lucas discussed the possibility with the Crozet YMCA administration and found a welcoming and supportive staff of triathletes along with similar distance swim, bike and run road course options. It’s never an easy decision to move a multisport event considered to be one of the most complicated events to direct. In the end, the support of the Crozet YMCA, several Crozet area businesses, such as Crozet Running, and many Crozet residents and athletic friends won Charlottesville Multisports over to relocate. “We are thrilled to create a new race home in the active and friendly community of Crozet” said Lucas.

With its natural beauty, history, and vibrancy, Crozet and the surrounding area is a destination location. We envision the Jefferson Sprint Triathlon & Duathlon race as a new reason to visit or continue to live in the area. Both the Crozet YMCA and the Jefferson Sprint Triathlon & Duathlon hope to encourage families, friends, and training teams to stay or become active and healthy through swimming, biking and running together.

The Jefferson Sprint Triathlon & Duathlon course starts and finishes at the Crozet YMCA at Crozet Park. It is an ideal race distance for those new to triathlons as well as experienced triathletes. It has a 25 meter pool swim, the bike has rolling hills in a scenic setting and the run has a blend of flat stretches mixed with rolling hills in the friendly Crozet neighborhood east of the Crozet YMCA. Average race day temperature is 86 F with a morning temperature in the low 70’s.

If you can’t race, sign up to volunteer! Come enjoy a morning outside in a positive environment helping out at a great community event! Volunteering is also a great way to learn more about the sport and be involved while a loved one races. Help is still much needed for pre-race set up Friday, July 15, 12-3pm (requires some lifting of bike racks) and with packet pickup from 3-7pm, and on race day Saturday, July 16 with a variety of volunteer roles and timeframes between 6am-1pm. All ages welcome from 7yrs old & up. Race set up and the start/finish will be at the Crozet YMCA. For more info and to sign up now please email volunteer coordinator Emily Hatch at [email protected].

The Jefferson Sprint Triathlon & Duathlon not only provides an incentive for a new fitness goal to anyone over the age of 12yrs or older, but also a platform and opportunity for the Crozet YMCA to raise awareness and promote support for their youth development programs. The Y is a charity, dedicated to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. With programs from A to Z – like athletics to advocacy, dance classes to disease prevention, volleyball to volunteerism – we don’t just strengthen individuals, we strengthen communities. Every gift matters. Everyone has a role to play. Together, we can achieve so much more. All donations are tax-deductible and can be made at the time of registration for the event or directly here: Crozet YMCA Donation
