Open this weekend for Crozet Trails Day, it’s easy to see that, with bike lanes, sidewalk and new lanes, this could be a fantastic road connecting the communities.

Update 16 October 2011: From our Board of Supervisor representative Ann Mallek:

The entire community is appreciative of the effort of VDOT to open the road for the Arts and Crafts festival and the pedestrian day. It did give up a great opportunity to see our future roadway in action.

I understand how painful the construction and the loss of trees is, and the ten year old design is wider than we might do it now, but I agree that the sidewalks, bike lanes and a 25 mph speed limit will be an asset to link our neighborhoods.

It was a bumpy bike ride yesterday, but Leo and I rode from Old Trail to Mountainside, McComb to Blue Ridge, Haden Lane to the trails in Old Trail. What a great way to see the neighborhoods. So many places to eat and so little time.

Leo and I figure we have 15-20 more years on the farm, then we will need to “come in” to town, and now we have some great ideas of places to land before we need to move into the Lodge.

Crozet Baptist Church’s 3rd Annual Fall Festival

Come join your friends at Crozet Baptist Church for the 3rd Annual Fall Festival on 30 October featuring local musicians, fresh-pressed cider, Brunswick Stew, children’s activities and finishing off the day with Trunk or Treat.  Festival begins at 3:00 and Trunk or Treat starts at 5:30.  Bring the whole family to celebrate Fall with us!

Update 28 October 20111: Hey Crozet, don’t forget about dropping by Crozet Baptist Church for our 3d Annual Fall Festival on October 30 from 3:00-5:30.  This year we will feature local singer-song writer Matt McAllister and Bluegrass Trio, Gallatin Canyon.  Cider, Brunswick Stew, children’s activities including balloon animals will be offered as well as best costume for those kids in attendance.  Those dolled up/dressed up/made up kids can then join us at 5:30 as we move the party across the street for our 1st offering of Trunk or Treat (Halloween Tailgating kids’ style).  Get two nights out of those trick or treating outfits by bringing your kids over for a fun, safe evening of goody collecting.

Want to Get involved in Crozet Trails Day?

via email:

If you want to be involved with Crozet Trails Day on 15 October 2011 but don’t have a lot of time or aren’t sure what is needed, this is for you (especially if you have kids that attend one of the local schools):

We need 2-3 volunteers for each of the four local schools (and we can add Field School too if someone wants to volunteer that) to be stationed at the school and hand out raffle tickets to walkers/bikers form 10-2pm. This can also be divided into two shifts (10-12 and 12-2). We can make these stops fun and exciting too! Feel free to engage the walkers/bikers in games, trivia, or other creative endeavors. Or just hang out in the nice Fall weather with a book and some friends. If your kids want to help out and want to get classmates involved, they could have a bake sale or hand out information about school-related issues. The school officials have been notified about this event and may be willing to help out or think of ways to get involved. Feel free to ask them for ideas or assistance.

All the other stops on the Pedestrian Challenge are being staffed by the businesses (see list below), but the Schools need some special volunteer attention.

If you want to get involved, Email Jessica.
