I don’t know yet if it’ll be soon, but I’d bet Crozet’s hotel will open in the next 24 months.
The hotel will be in Old Trail, rather than in Downtown Crozet. (my opinion: After many conversations, I’m more convinced than ever that this is going to fill a real void in Crozet – the number of vineyards hosting events, weddings, etc. alone probably necessitates this)
I wrote a bit more on my real estate blog – but I’m hoping that the applicant will respond to my email today or tomorrow so I can give more and better Crozet-specific information. (Update: just talked to David; he has exciting plans that I think are going to be very good for Crozet. Either way, I expect we’ll be talking about and hearing about the changes coming to Crozet for the next several months.
If you’re interested, you’ll find a familiar name as the applicant on the County’s County View; just copy SDP2013-011 and paste it into the “application #” field.
Update: Looks like they’re aiming for an opening around January 2015 … right in time for the spring wedding season.

As usual, interesting comments on the RealCrozetVA Facebook page.
Hey Jim, the CountyView link is bad or the county didn’t pay their hosting bill! (its back up now…)
D’oh. Fixed.
I was meeting with clients this morning new to the area … they are thinking about moving here, buying in Crozet, using the hotel for guests, putting parents in the Lodge … lots of possibilities and positives.
Sorry Jim, but this is not so wonderful for people near that hotel, especially those in Village Commons. They purchased their with a zoning that was for residential. Yes, it was dense residential, but it was residential with a limited zone for retail/commercial. Now, they are talking about making a MAJOR density change. That hotel will bring increased cars that will have no where to park except for along the residential streets neighboring it and a significant increase in full time density all hours of the day beyond residential. At least the shops close at normal hours. A hotel (even a small one) will have traffic all hours of the night and day. What a joke.
I think this is a wonderful addition to Old Trail and Crozet! Mr. Hilliard seems to really have his finger on the pulse and has done nothing but bring interesting people/artists/speakers and education to The Lodge at Old Trail. We can only assume that he will keep Crozet in mind while constructing his hotel. I have been to The Lodge many times and I love the seminars and community feeling it has and gives to the larger community of Crozet.
